JANUARY NOTES: (January 24th Update): Brand new today is another from the genius canon of Oliver Nelson: Message (From Afrro/American Sketches).

We had something pretty special last week - the release of our first really seminal Frank Sinatra classic in a while: Billy Byers's arrangement of The Lady is a Tramp. This chart became a staple of Sinatra's live performances, and it's not hard to see why. The chart does a masterful job of packing in a surprising amount of content for the band while managing to never step over the vocal melody at any time; in other words, a chart absolutely perfect for Sinatra. This publication was based on the original set of parts from Frank Sinatra's library - this is not a transcription.

January has an especially powerful group of new releases, complemented by another from Nat 'King' Cole, Nelson Riddle's arrangement of Thou Swell. Also brand new from Mr. Riddle is his arrangement of Can't Help Lovin That (Dat) Man as written for Ella Fitzgerald. Just added this week as well is our first from the Diva Jazz Orchestra via John LaBarbera, his arrangement of Stardust. We have another from our good friend Terry Gibbs's Dream Band, Bill Holman's take on Stardust. Also featured this month are a bunch more saxophone quartet and octet arrangements from BYU Idaho professor/composer/arranger Dr. Mark Watkins.

NEW PDF DOWNLOADABLE ARRANGEMENTS NOTES: (January 27th Update): Brand new are our latest Jazz at Lincoln Center Essentially Ellington arrangements, Ellington's Feet Bone and Rockabye River, which join In a Mellow Tone, All Too Soon, and Half the Fun, and Walkin' and Swingin' from Mary Lou Williams. With today's addition of Mark Taylor's bari feature on Gerry Mulligan's Out Back of the Barn, we now have an unusually high total of 51 brand new and newly-available PDF downloadable arrangements added this month (the latter are charts that have been in print for a while; we have just now made the PDF downloadable versions available). These include music from Mike Tomaro, Jeff Jarvis, Rick Stitzel, Peter Blair, Paul Murtha, Doug Beach, and George Shutack; included are an easy version of Come Fly With Me, three Beatles classics, and Tricky Sticks, a great educational chart from Greg Yasinitsky, as it is a somewhat unusual easy level drum feature.
