DECEMBER NOTES: (December 2nd Update): Our latest Jazz Lines Publications release is Poinciana as recorded by the Phil Norman Tentet. Christian Jacobs's arrangement does a wonderful job of merging the classical with the contemporary. Beginning in a style highly reminiscent of Ahmad Jamal's famous recording, things continue to expand further and further out as the performance goes on, eventually contracting back to its origins, making for a delightful reworking from beginning to end. The piano part was fully arranged and is completely written out. This publication was prepared from the original set of parts from the Phil Norman Tentet library - this is not a transcription.

Also new this month is yet another from the Glenn Miller Orchestra, I Know That You Know. The Miller band originally covered I Know That You Know in 1938. This version, however, was written for the band by Bill Finegan at some point during the years it was led by clarinetist Buddy DeFranco. It appears to have never been recorded, either live or in-studio. A clarinet feature from start to finish, it is a wonderfully energetic interpretation of a naturally exuberant tune that features several of Finegan's arranging trademarks. This publication was prepared from Bill Finegan's pencil score and a set of parts in the Glenn Miller library. The sound sample is a midi playback of the arrangement as no other audio exists.
