If you have a strong sax section, then SAXIPHRASS, an original feature in the up-tempo bebop/hard bop style of Supersax's treatments of Charlie Parker tunes/soli-scored solos, is a great chart to check out! The piece begins with an 8-bar piano solo with rhythm section, then the sax section states the full melody with percussive hits/responses from the brass, followed by two blowing sections each, with 2nd time backgrounds, prior to two full sax soli choruses (can be cut down to one chorus if desired). This is the type of chart sax sections dig into at the collegiate and professional levels, as well as top high school ensembles. Scored for standard big band instrumentation (no doubles, with tuba optional), it is straight ahead energy from beginning to end, with flexibility to customize solo and soli lengths. Suitable as both a section and improv showcase for festivals, guest soloists, and as an opener/closer or change of pace!

Lead trumpet up to high written Ds, lead trombone to B. Quarter note = 207 but certainly can be played slower than that if desired. The sax soli can be cut from U2 to Z2 if desired and the improv sections can be trimmed as well. There is a bonus Flugelhorn part included that is the same as Alto 1. It is totally optional and not on score, but can be played as an additional featured horn with the sax section.

Soloists: 1st improv section (Letter E): piano, guitar, tenor and/or bari; 2nd improv section (Letter K): piano, guitar, trumpet and/or trombone; drums have some 4 bar transitional solos. Additional Flugelhorn part same as Alto 1 (optional and not on score).
