Edition: Jazz Big Band Arrangement
Description: Latin - Medium Difficult
Publisher: Walrus Music Publishing
Sammy The Chinchilla is an exciting medium-tempo Latin 8th groove that blends musical images of Santana,Tower of Power, and other horn bands. Playable at high school, collegiate and professional levels, it has been featured at district and all-state high school jazz festivals, and will appear on a forthcoming project by the Jeff Holmes Big Band. The melody is played by flugelhorn and saxes with active brass punches, a repeatable solo section, and two finishing ensemble choruses: the first more laid back and the second shouting. Suitable for festivals, guest soloists, and as a closer. Lead trumpet has optional notes that keep it at a written high B (or as written high, D/E). Adding congas/percussion enhances the chart; bari sax will enjoy the 'Kupka' styled part.
Soloists: guitar (interspersed throughout but playable without); tenor sax, alto sax, flugel, and/or trombone in solo section. No sax doubles. 4 trumpets (with optional flugelhorn), solo flugelhorn (or trumpet), 4 trombones. Optional flute & vibes part (solo changes provided as well & not on score).
