Description: Swing - Difficult

This Robert Farnon arrangement of the Hugh Martin/Ralph Blaine Christmas classic was written for Tony Bennett’s 1968 album Snowfall. Farnon’s orchestration provides a lush, yet tranquil, setting for Bennett’s golden tenor. Although the arrangement is quite short, it’s an unforgettable musical experience for anyone who listens to it.
A gentle two-bar introduction sets up the seldom-heard verse of this Christmas classic. This verse is conducted colla voce and primarily features the string section providing the underpinning with the woodwinds delicately adding color. A slight crescendo leads to the familiar chorus section that is taken in-tempo. Farnon’s harmonies and style of orchestration creates a magical and cinematic backdrop for the vocalist. The volume should stay mostly subdued except for a few brief sections where the ensemble needs to standout. The arrangement comes to a close in a gentle, rubato fashion.
This publication was prepared from the original parts that were used during the 1968 recording session - this is not a transcription. The vocal key is C.
