Edition: JAZZ BIG BAND ARRANGEMENT
Description: MEDIUM DIFFICULT A wonderful straight 1/8th note contemporary composition which starts with an unaccompanied sax soli, employs a few very interesting metric modulations ( i.e. tempo changes), alternates between 3/4 and 4/4, and, in general, is influenced by the music of Kenny Wheeler. Instrumentation: Standard big band ( i.e. 2 altos, 2 tenors, 1 bari, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, guitar (optional), piano, bass drums). Alto 1 may also be played on Soprano sax (part included). Optional vibes part is also included. Improvised solo is in the alto sax 1 part and the top lead trumpet note is a written 'G'. Although the tempo changes are non-standard in nature, after listening to the demo audio recording, the tempo changes are in fact fairly straight-forward to put together in a limited number of rehearsals. The piece was composed for and dedicated to, trumpeter Dr. Raymon Vasquez, one of the composer's dearest friends
