Upstate is a medium swinger featuring the bass, tenor sax and flute on the head in a lite 2 feel in the rhythm. The 2nd chorus is the brass in counterpoint in a 4 feel and then voiced out finishing as it started back into a 2 groove. The solo section starts in a 2 feel and drops into 4 as the backgrounds happen. A little Mancini effect for the last of the flute solo in the brass. The ensemble is kind of a call and answer then moving into tight harmony. The small group come in again at the end to finish it out. Again I’ve feature the bass in a lot of these. This was written for the great New York bassist Jay Anderson and amazing legendary  studio and touring bass man. And my buddy from Long Beach state.
