Edition: Latin Jazz Big Band Arrangement
Description: Latin Ballad - Medium Difficult
Publisher: 3-2 Music
"SEVILLA" is a concert jazz piece with wide dynamic ranges, rhythmic and harmonic complexity (voicings and solo changes); originally a "ballad over a med-slow guaguanco". An intermediate to difficult piece for college band due to dynamic variations, exposed soloistic lines, challenging ensemble soli and rhythm section parts. "SEVILLA" is a reflection on the time in medieval Spain (aka al-Andalus or Sepharad) when Christian, Jew, and Muslim co-existed at various times in relative peace - when 10th century scholars translated Aristotle into Arabic, while deliberating the Greek Wisdom Schools. Toledo, Granada, and Sevilla were towns where the three faiths co-existed & shared cultural, scientific, and artistic wisdoms. Solos: changes in alto 2, tenor 1, bari sax, trumpet 2 & 4, trombone 2, vibes, guitar, and piano. Doubles: tenor 1 on soprano, bari on bass clarinet, trumpets 2 & 4 on flugelhorn. Performance time: 8:00+.
