JUNE NOTES: Walrus Music Publishing is very pleased to announce our publication of John LaBarbera's original Dancing Men chart as written for Buddy Rich. This is a high-energy rock chart that puts the pedal to the metal from the first note and never lets up. A simple but catchy melody is interspersed around screaming brass hits and plenty of drum fills. A strong brass section is a necessity to pull this one off. Solos are for tenor sax, trombone, and (of course) drums. Jazz Lines Publications' newest is Ella Fitzgerald's Lazy. An appropriately titled song if ever there was one, Paul Weston's arrangement of Irving Berlin's Lazy provides an easygoing, carefree setting for Ella. Even on the few occasions where the volume picks up, the feel should remain pleasantly easygoing in every aspect of your ensemble's performance.
We have just started to add brand new Alfred and Kendor 2023 new releases to our site. Below we have great new charts, originals and standards, from Kris Berg, Rick Hirsch, Mike Kamuf, Bret Zvacek, and Lars Halle. We will add quite a few more very soon.
Brand new recently was Benny Carter's 1942 arrangement of Ol' Man River. This chart turns the Kern/Hammerstein Showboat classic on its head, swapping out the traditional dirge-like tempo the song is typically associated with for a blisteringly fast 2-beat. If executed well, this chart is a thrilling show-stopper, but be advised that it will give your ensemble quite a challenge. We also have our brand new Jazz Lines Publications edition of Benny's Sunset Glow. Written as a part of his Kansas City Suite, this lovely ballad serves as a multi-faceted feature for your band.
Another brand new one is our latest chart from the Glenn Miller Orchestra, Peg O' My Heart. I'll Be Home for Christmas is another recent release from the Miller band.
We began June with two brand new John Kirby arrangements: Charlie Shavers's Move Over and Beethoven Riffs On from Lou Singer.
NEW PDF DOWNLOADABLE ARRANGEMENTS NOTES: Our latest are Dancing Men and Best Coast from John LaBarbera. We also have another diverse selection of new PDF downloads available, including Sammy Nestico's original version of Shiny Stockings as written for the Basie band, John Clayton's arrangement of Since I Fell for You that he wrote for the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, the first new Jazz Combo Pak available in PDF form in a while, #16 with four fabulous standards including Fly Me to the Moon and A Foggy Day, a Mark Taylor big band version of Yardbird Suite as well as his vocal arrangement of The Look of Love, Paul Murtha's take on the megahit Don't Know Why, Roger Holmes's ultra-popular version of the holiday favorite Christmas Time is Here, and more. Last week we added Clayton's version of Squatty Roo, Toshiko Akiyoshi's Song for the Harvest, and two popular ones from Michael Philip Mossman, his big band arrangements of A Night in Tunisia and Afro Blue.
Along with everything listed above in June Notes, this gives us an amazing 37 brand new and newly-available PDF downloadable arrangements in June; please click here to view them all.
