AUGUST NOTES: We now have listed all eight Duke Ellington Orchestra arrangements from the 2024 Jazz at Lincoln Center Essentially Ellington competition. These are all available in PDF or traditional paper formats, and in a discounted complete set as well.
We are highly pleased to now offer Brent Wallarab's Gennett Suite. The Gennett Suite is a response to the call of jazz history rooted in the composer’s love of the music, his desire to transform and renew it, and his own history. The Gennett Suite, Wallarab emphasizes, is not a re-creation of the classic 1920s Gennett recordings made by artists such as Jelly Roll Morton and Bix Beiderbecke. Wallarab instead has used these landmark Gennett solos and compositions as seeds, creating a thriving new landscape of music right at home in the contemporary world, but well-marked with signposts pointing to the origins of our present moment. A brilliant work using such classic compositions as 'Dippermouth Blues,' 'Wolverine Blues,' and 'Stardust,' the Buselli-Wallarab Jazz Orchestra reimagines these legendary themes and personages for a new century. Arranger Brent Wallarab’s use of extended themes, elasticized time, advanced harmonies, and plush ensemble textures boldly bring these classic compositions into the 21st century.
RECENT HIGHLIGHTS: July New Arrangements pages included three more from the Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Cole Porter Song Book album, all arranged by Buddy Bregman: 'All of You,' 'I Love Paris,' and 'Begin the Beguine.' We have another from Tony Bennett via Robert Farnon, 'Winter Wonderland.' New from the Glenn Miller Orchestra is 'A String of Carols' as written by Dave Wolpe. We also have brand new charts from favorites Gordon Goodwin and Alan Baylock. From Mr. Goodwin we have 'Terminally Hip,' a clever swinging treatment of a catchy tune. From Mr. Baylock we have 'The Upsweep,' a very funky rock chart with a driving groove.
And we'd once again like to point out our recently released Wayne Shorter compositions as arranged by members of and recorded by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.
