Also new is Nelson Riddle's arrangement of Should I?, which was written for Frank Sinatra, recorded in August of 1960, and released a few days into 1961 on Sinatra's Swingin' Session. The performance moves at a brisk pace, and although somewhat repetitive, this chart will keep your band on its toes from start to finish. This publication was prepared from Nelson Riddle's original score - this is not a transcription.

Originally written back in the 1920s by country blues singer Gus Cannon, "Walk Right In" became a hit in 1963 when it was covered by the folk rock group the Rooftop Singers. This Bob Florence arrangement was written for the Dave Pell Octet and recorded on their album "The Dave Pell Octet Plays Today's Hits in Jazz."
Taken at a noticeably quicker pace compared to the Rooftop Singers' version, it's a fairly straightforward arrangement that doesn't have any noticeably difficult parts from a technical perspective

We also have another Prez Conference chart featuring a Woody Herman-style sax section (three tenors, one baritone) playing another standard associated with Lester Young, complete with harmonized solis based off of his classic solos. This arrangement of Just You, Just Me is clever in that it references two separate recordings from the same December 1943 session for inspiration. Starting off with a transcription of Slam Stewart's bass intro (albeit played by both piano and bass here), the melody is based on Young's interpretation from the master take. Holman then makes soli sections out of Young's solos from both the master and alternate take. These publications were prepared from the original sets of parts from Dave Pell's library - these are not transcriptions.

RECENT HIGHLIGHT: The Thad Jones Anthology: 82 Original Small-Group Compositions has become one of our most popular releases ever. Please click here to view this instant must-have volume in paper and PDF download formats.
