Edition: Jazz Studio Orchestra Arrangement with Vocal
Description: Swing - Difficult
Publisher: Jazz Lines Publications
Nelson Riddle was clearly paying hommage to his arrangement of I’ve Got You Under My Skin recorded in 1956 by Frank Sinatra for the album Songs for Swingin’ Lovers. This chart shares many of the same melodic figures and overall feel. Sinatra fans will immediately recognize the intro featuring that familiar bass clarinet line with trombones and celeste in the background. The trombone figure is passed to the saxophones for the second A section. At the conclusion of the chorus the bass trombone begins the interlude in familiar way as well. The other trombones enter and the volume gradually increases. The saxophones enter and then the trumpets as the volume continues to swell leading to the brilliant 16-bar shout section. The volume drops back down for the vocal entrance and a recap of earlier material. This leads to an ending with the same bass clarinet figure with trombone accompaniment. Of course, the final Db7(#11 b9) chord is played by the strings thus completing the tribute arrangement. The vocal key is Db throughout.
