Description: Swing - Difficult

This original Kim Richmond composition (revised and simplified 1999) is a tribute to (and quasi-imitation of) the Bill Russo mid-fifties era pieces for the Stan Kenton Orchestra. Starting with a double-time ensemble section, the piece features a strong trombone solo melody (at ballad tempo) for the main statement of the theme. The variations showcase more concerted ensemble double-time and a short alto sax ad lib solo passage, then concludes with screaming 1st trumpet over a wall-of-sound tutti. Solos: Trb. melody, alto sax, 1st tpt high note written Eb -F optional. WW dbls: optional flutes on WW 1 & 2 Optional parts for French horns, tuba, Latin and mallet percussion Recorded on Kim Richmond Concert Jazz Orchestra CD "Refractions" Origin 82413
