A Tribute To Reverend Tongue is an up-tempo blues "small group" chart that features the tenor trombone throughout the entire chart. The concept behind this chart was to feature Miguel Gomez, a virtuoso trombonist who had excellent command of the triple tonguing technique. The introduction is a slow, thick, gospel feel with trombone fills over the top of the band, followed by several cadenzas into seven choruses of blues with horn riff backgrounds. There is a challenging tutti section. This chart is a definite crowd-pleaser. Trumpet highest note F5 (two octaves and a perfect 4th above middle C). This chart is a trombone feature--no other soloists. 2 trumpets, 1 trombone - the featured soloist, 1 alto, 1 baritone. Rhythm: piano, bass, and drums (guitar optional). No doubles. Medium for the band, difficult for the trombone soloist.
