The Glenn Miller Orchestra's version of Toyland (arranged by Dave Wolpe for the album In the Nutcracker Mood) manages to expertly balance retaining the whimsy of the original version with putting a pleasantly swinging twist to it. Starting out in a gentle 3/4, the lead trombone is featured on the melody that requires a delicate touch despite largely being in the instrument's upper register. A brief 6/8 march time interlude sets up a medium swing feel for a band melody statement and tenor sax solo, with the arrangement eventually returning to its gentle waltz time origins.
