The Third Degree is a hard-driving showcase with alternating Latin and swing feels, powerful ensemble exchanges and dense, swinging orchestrations. It features solos for trumpet, tenor sax and trombone. Difficult. Note about the sound sample from John Fedchock: The version of "The Third Degree" I recorded with my band was changed a little bit since the original version of the chart. The opening was just a little different. I took a recording of a college band playing the original version and I edited the opening of that chart with the version my band did a few years later. This mp3 should match the parts, although there is a little difference in the opening head for about 2 1/2 beats in the score only. This sound sample should match close enough for reference.
