Edition: Jazz Vocal Big Band Arrangement
Description: Swing - Difficult
Publisher: Jazz Lines Publications
The song The Party's Over was composed by Jule Styne with lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green for the 1956 musical comedy Bells Are Ringing. The song was introduced by Judy Holliday, who reprised the song for the 1960 film adaptation of the play. This version was arranged by Billy May for Nat Cole's 1957 Capitol recording session.
This arrangement was written for a standard big band with three of the woodwinds doubling on piccolos, flutes, and oboe (see the contents tab for a complete information on doubles). Also, the band is augmented by harp and percussion (xylophone, marimba, timpani, and bells). The vocal key is Db.
This publication was based on Billy May's pencil score and the set of parts used for the recording session - this is not a transcription. Note: this publication matches the Capitol recording from the Just One of Those Things album - not the Nat King Cole TV show performance. Due to the unavailability of a tuba, harp, percussion and some woodwind doubles, the original Billy May arrangement was modified by Nelson Riddle for the below 1957 television performance.
