Edition: Jazz Little Big Band Arrangement
Description: Swing - Medium Difficult
Publisher: Jazz Lines Publications
Horace Silver's hard bop classic Strollin' gets a delightful re-working in this Bob Florence arrangement for the Phil Norman Tentet. The introduction cleverly oscillates between warm and dissonant, and is used multiple times throughout the rest of the performance as an interlude. The melody is split in half, covered by the rhythm section for the first half and the horns for the second, with an unexpected key change providing a nice surprise to those who aren't expecting it. The solo section contains chord changes for all instruments and can be opened up as much as you'd like, and is followed by a pleasantly swinging shout chorus featuring tenor sax as the lead ensemble voice. Be sure to never let the volume get too loud at any point!
