Influenced by the sound of classic mid-1960s Blue Note recordings (think Joe Henderson's "In 'n Out"), "Spin" alternates back and forth between a medium swing and 12/8 Latin feel. The triplet-y melody is framed by a warm harmonic progression that remains fairly consistent throughout the arrangement, with the only major deviation being for a drum solo before the final shout chorus near the end. Be ready for a handful of tricky technical passages that pop up in each section at various points within the chart. Solos are for alto sax, trombone, and drums. There are 5 trumpet parts, but the arrangement is perfectly playable with only 4.
