Sodwanna Bay (located on the north east coast of South Africa) is a straight 1/8th composition that features trombone and flugelhorn solos. In the opening and closing of the chart the drummer plays with mallets or with his hands invoking an Afro/Cuban feel. Harmonically this is not a difficult arrangement. The challenge lies in balancing the various sections. The shout chorus is particularly interesting in that there is a counterpoint between trumpets and trombones over a saxophone section "pad" and a third counter line in bass and piano.
