The piece begins with a simple 4/4 theme played at a slow tempo. The melody and form are retained throughout but the meter and style shifts to a jazz waltz which morphs into a contrapuntal Bembé section. A strong rhythm section augmented by extra percussion is recommended. As heard on the John Paulson Big Band CD “The Refuge Project.”
