A tour de force bop concerto grosso featuring a 4 horn frontline (concertino) with big band (ripieno). This group within a group chart features the frontline as a unit both separate from, and integrated within the full ensemble. Time alternates between medium and double time with plenty of blowing space for the 4 soloists. Written early in my teaching career, as composer in residence at the University of Utah, it has been revisited and slightly revised for this 21st century release. It includes contrapuntal and developmental activity based on the opening melodies presented by the frontline and builds to some intense and exciting high points. Trumpet 1 to written high E.
