A formally complex, episodic concert piece (based around clave) with wide dynamic range, rhythmic complexity, challenging ensemble lines, and harmonically diverse montunos/tumbaos - originally recorded by Vazquez' Quintet, this big band version was re-arranged and developed for "The Visitor" sessions to also feature drums & congas solo trades. The piece begins with a subtle brass chorale conversation with rhythm section; then, after a montuno is established, travels thru several diverse areas which are connected motivically and/or harmonically towards an overall evolution: a modulation (drum solos) prior to the recap of the main melody and bridge sections lead into an exciting coda. This is an intermediate-difficult piece for college band with complex rhythm section parts. Solos: changes in alto 1, tenor 1, bari sax, trumpet 4, trombone 2, vibes, guitar, and piano. Doubles: alto 2 on flute, tenor 1 on soprano, bari on bass clarinet, trumpet 4 on flugelhorn. Performance time: 11:00+.
