Park City Express is an exciting, Grade 4, hard-swinging, up tempo blues featuring a unique melodic presentation, hip changes and a battle between tenor saxophone soloists (on the recording, the soloists are tenor and trumpet), scored for standard big band: 5 saxes (AATTB), 5 trumpets (5th is optional), 4 trombones (4th is bass trombone), and 4 rhythmguitar (optional), piano, bass and drums. The chart was commissioned by the award-winning Crescent Super Band under the direction of Caleb Chapman and was premiered at the Park City Jazz Festival. The chart includes a swinging saxophone soli and roaring shout chorus. Top note for the lead trumpet is a Db, for lead trombone, a Bb. Park City Express is an impressive set closer, an ideal chart for festival or concert performance. The recording is by the Washington State University Jazz Big Band under the direction of Greg Yasinitsky.
