I've always been a fan of Oliver Nelson's writing which prompted this chart dedicated to him. The intro plays more like a wind ensemble piece using many of the patterns associated with Oliver before the segue to a nice laid back, straight ahead groove. Lots of Oliver's signature voicings and a quote near the end leaves no doubt why this piece is titled Oliver. A trombone solo begins in stop time before a transition to an alto sax solo.
