Edition: Jazz Studio Orchestra Arrangement with Vocal
Description: Ballad - Difficult
Publisher: Jazz Lines Publications
Written in 1950 by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans for the film Captain Carey, U.S.A., the song Mona Lisa won an Oscar for Best Original Song. Nat Cole recorded this Nelson Riddle arrangement in March of 1950, only a few weeks after the movie opened. Cole's recording became a #1 hit and was later inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1992. Originally a string arrangement, this chart was later augmented by Ralph Carmichael to include a flute, 3 clarinets, horn in F, and 2 trombones. These optional parts, used by Nat Cole for live performances, have been included and may be used at the discretion of the conductor. For the original recording the orchestra consisted of 8 violins, 2 violas, and 2 celli. The vocal key is Db.
