Mix A Modian Lid is a modal swinger for the advanced level band. Scored for five saxes (SATTB), four trumpets, four trombones, piano, guitar, bass and drums, plus optional tuba and vibraphone. A tricky unison melody line is played by the soprano sax and guitar (with optional vibes) for the first chorus. They are joined by the trumpet section in the second chorus. All of the trumpets play up to a high B just above the staff. The challenge with this chart is in performing the up-tempo syncopated rhythms with the proper swing feel while staying on top of the beat. It should be played at a very bright tempo. There's a solo section that can be opened up to as many solos as you want to feature. The chord changes (found in all parts) consist of a chromatically descending series of minor ninth chords, good practice for improvising in dorian mode. Advanced.
