Commissioned for UNI president Bob Koob's farewell celebration. Koobism is a straigt ahead swinger in the hard bop style. The A section of the 32-bar theme is based on Coltrane's Resolution, and the bridge features major harmonies rising by major thirds, ala Giant Steps. Introductory and interlude material brings to mind Chick Corea's Three Quartets album. Lots of contrapuntal writing, as well as an interesting saxophone soli and a traditional ensemble tutti near the end. Soloists: alto, piano, drums (could be opened up for any instrument.) Doubles: none. Med-difficult.
