Kilter was written for and recorded by FOUR and the Zagreb Saxophone Quartet. It is third-stream in nature, being a mix of jazz and classical styles—apropos for FOUR and the classical Zagreb quartet. Melody is in the Zagreb soprano and quite chromatic but lyric, leading to an improvised solo in the FOUR soprano. A jazz soli follows developing into a 7-note harmony. Classical running lines and staccato punctuations culminate the work.
