Edition: Jazz Studio Orchestra Arrangement with Vocal
Description: Swing - Medium
Publisher: Jazz Lines Publications
This Cole Porter song was written in 1952 and was introduced by Lilo in the role of La Mome in the musical Can-Can. This version was recorded by Ella Fitzgerald in 1956 for her Cole Porter Song Book album, arranged by Buddy Bregman.
The strings set the tone of this arrangement before giving way to a colla voce section where the vocalist sings the verse (accompanied by the keyboard player). The strings re-enter for the chorus with a few cameos by the woodwinds (flute and oboe). The strings get a chance to shine during the instrumental section evoking Rachmaninoff's string writing of the early 20th Century. A recap of the first part of the arrangement follows that then leads us to a closing statement by the strings.
This publication was prepared using Buddy Bregman's original pencil score - this is not a transcription. The vocal key moves between G major and G minor.
