Trumpet and soprano sax featured soloists (Tim Hagans/Mike Smith) get to exorcise all of their demons in this medium swing, but absolutely burning take on 'I Hear A Rhapsody' changes. Angular motifs, disjointed punches, and a kind of funky, improvised ostinato give way to a surprisingly tuneful melody. After plenty of blowing the melody returns in a very majestic fashion only to finally give way to the now frenetic ostinato. Edgy, loose, and lots of fun.
