Edition: Paperback Book, Guitar

Description: 80 Pages

This is not a book of transcribed solos....it is a method book for the development of an improvisational style where you can play bebop lines in chords.....like Wes did. The cover says: "A guide for developing a chordal vocabulary for improvisation. Written with the styles of Wes Montgomery, Cal Collins, and Barney Kessel in mind". In the introduction, the author makes the following comment....." There are many books which deal with chord forms, comping, and chord-melody playing, but these do not provide a vocabulary for the kind of harmonized soloing that Wes and others have done. In "How to Play Chordal Bebop Lines"...the goal is to develop a vocabulary for improvising in lines of chords."

The table of contents reflects chapters dealing with commonly used voicings, chord scales, and inversions of many types of chords, leading to section 2 of the book which is actual phrases and patterns in chords. (Much like Jerry Coker's Patterns for jazz, only the lines are in chords, for guitar.) Melodic lines, in chords, are written with a melody line and a fret diagram underneath each melody note. Poor readers can beneftit greatly from this style of writing. Book is 80 pages in length with nice spiral binding. This text is a must for the student who is exploring chordal improvisation in the Wes style.
