The three volumes in this series are among the most popular books David Baker has ever written. They are filled with fantastic learning, the heart of David's DECADES teaching some of the best jazz students in the world. The second volume covers the bebop language, patterns, formulas and other linking exercises necessary to play bebop music.

Volume 2 takes common bebop progressions and demonstrates their practical use. Licks are presented within exercises and followed by a list of standard tunes utilizing that progression or scale. The II-V7 progression is covered extensively in both major and minor keys. Other topics include turnbacks, cycles, creating a bebop bass line and a list of essential bebop tunes that should be committed to memory.
