Edition: Jazz Big Band Arrangement With Vocal
Description: Swing - Medium Difficult
Publisher: Lush Life Music
Written by Count Basie and his vocalist, Jimmy Rushing, this tune was a staple of the early Basie band. The chart that we offer here is a later vocal version written for Peggy Lee by Quincy Jones. It still retains a certain Basie flavour, as one might expect from a QJ chart. The band backings complement the vocal lines and the instrumental bridge has a great double-time feel at its heart. The brass ranges are quite high. You will need a lead trumpet who can repeatedly hit a written F6 (four times in the chart) and the lead trombone reaches C5 too. If your players have the chops, this chart is for them. There are no sax doubles and the vocal key is C throughout.
