Edition: Jazz Big Band Arrangement with Vocal
Description: Swing - Medium Difficult
Publisher: Jazz Lines Publications
In 1946 Benny Carter arranged this tune, made famous a year earlier by Nat King Cole. Carter's big band performed the chart for an Armed Forces Radio Service (AFRS) broadcast in July of that year with Lucy Elliott singing. For the first chorus, the trumpets and saxophones sharing playing the melody with a tenor saxophone solo mixed in. There is an interlude and modulation to G for the vocal. Another interlude, following the vocal chorus, sets up the saxophones re-stating the melody before the vocal re-enters for the second half of the tune to close out the arrangement. The second interlude was originally cut from the chart most likely for time reasons. That 10-bar section has been included for this publication. There are no saxophone doubles.
