This Thad Jones arrangement of the Lionel Hampton/Benny Goodman standard comes from the Harry James album 'New Versions of Down Beat Favorites,' recorded in Las Vegas in 1964 for MGM Records. The concept of the album was that James would record many of the songs that were associated with the great big bands of the 1930s and early 1940s. This was James's way of saluting an era in music in which he starred, when his trumpet was one of the most exciting sounds. Thad took this tune and put his stamp on it.
Featuring solos for tenor saxophone, trombone, and the trumpet soloist (Harry James's part), this chart is a raucous standout. The introduction featured in this publication was written by Thad but not played for the record.
