Rich DeRosa wrote this magnificent piece as a tribute to Bob Curnow. The piece moves from a celebratory feast of sound into a contemporary fusion feel, a guitar solo, more wonderful ensemble writing and ends with an amazing splash of the best big band writing you’ll find anywhere, anytime.

This has been recorded by the University of North Texas One O’Clock Lab Band (directed by Alan Baylock) for their Lab 2023 CD. The recording is as fantastic as the chart. Fanfare for the Uncommon Man will be thought of for many years to come as one of the most exciting compositions ever written for large jazz ensemble.
