Edition: Jazz Big Band Arrangement
Description: Mambo - Difficult
Publisher: 3-2 Music
Michael Mossman pays homage to Mario Bauza, "Father" of the Afro-Cuban jazz movement with a composition as authentically written as it is exciting to play. First sold by Three-Two Music Publishing in 2000, this chart was recorded on the CD "944 Columbus" (Mario's address for 50 years) on the Messidor label. It is a challenging mambo for a mature band with an authentic mix of "clave" phrasing. After a burning first half, the chart puts on the brakes halfway into the song and digs into a driving cha-cha with the saxes stating the melody. Just as the band is catching their breath, the saxes pass the baton back to their musical cohorts for a mambo driven culmination. This chart has changes for trumpet, alto, trombone, and baritone soloist who will all want to "lead the charge" as they will be inspired by the infectious and rich rhythmic amalgamation of Afro-Cuban tumbao. An exciting chart worth keeping in your library for years to come. Solos: trumpet, alto, bari. Ranges: trumpet -D above staff, trombone-high concert A.
