Edition: Jazz Quintet with Wind Ensemble

Description: Difficult

Publisher: Walrus Music Publishing

Think Alfred Reed meets David Holsinger meets Chuck Mangione and that sums up the vibe of this composition. It begins with a slow introduction for the wind ensemble that moves into a fast samba feel. The melody enters in the tenor, and the trumpet or soprano sax enters after the first statement of the theme with the rest of the wind ensemble. There are many layers and a few licks to keep your woodwind players on their toes. The brass parts are comfortable and a good way to give them a break in your concert. (The trumpet 1 part only leaves the staff for 2 measures and goes to a concert Ab). Solo changes are written in all the quintet parts.

The piece is about a lost love affair, shattered by one returning to a life of drug addiction. There is a happy ending to the story, and what I think is a happy ending to the composition. I hope you and your group like it!
