Edition: Jazz Big Band Arrangement
Description: Ballad - Medium Difficult
Publisher: Jazz at Lincoln Center
Blue and Sentimental is a beautiful, dance-tempo ballad. This piece was originally a feature for Herschel Evans on tenor sax, although it features short solo statements by Count Basie on piano, Ed 'Tiger' Lewis on trumpet, and Lester Young on clarinet. The contrasting tones of the husky, Texas tenor of Evans and the thoughtful, airy clarinet of Young are primarily on display. If you have both a tenor saxophonist and a clarinetist that have these two contrasting elements in their respective sounds, they would help to fulfill Eddie Durham's original intentions for the arrangement.
