Here is the moving title track from Oliver Nelson's tribute to Martin Luther King, recorded in 1969. Featured is a beautiful melody (written for alto saxophone soloist) accompanied by a string orchestra that glides through sophisticated and sometimes dissonant harmonies. In the liner notes for the album Nelson states: "Black Brown, and Beautiful is how I feel about my people. All of them."
Nelson's score indicates that he composed this for 6 first violins, 4 second violins, 4 violas, 4 celli, 2 double basses, piano/celeste, 'rhythm' acoustic bass, and drum set.
This publication was prepared from Oliver Nelson's original pencil score - this is not a transcription.
