Jazztet, The
Although not as famous as the bands led by Art Blakey and Horace Silver, the Art Farmer-Benny Golson Jazztet was one of the greatest bands of the hard bop era. Co-founded in 1959, the original Jazztet was only around for a few years, but helped launch the careers of pianist McCoy Tyner and Grachan Moncur, among others, as well as served as an ideal setting for Golson's timeless writing. The band would eventually go on multiple reunion tours in the 1980s and 1990s with a younger lineup of sidemen in addition to Farmer and Golson reprising their original roles.
