Dorsey, Jimmy

The older brother of trombonist and fellow bandleader Tommy, Jimmy Dorsey was a successful musician in and of his own right. The two brothers led a band together until an argument in 1935; Jimmy would retain and continue performing under the Dorsey Brothers moniker afterwards. The band's biggest successes came from their records backing singer Helen O'Connell.

Jimmy and Tommy eventually reconciled, releasing their first new disc together in 1945 before forming a new Dorsey Brothers Orchestra in 1953. This new version of the band became the stars of the television series "Stage Show." Unfortunately, this reunion was fairly short lived, as both Dorsey Brothers would pass away within a year of each other (Tommy in 1956, Jimmy in 1957).
