Pate, Johnny

Starting out his career as a bassist, Johnny Pate studied arranging while serving in the military and made it his primary career from the 1960s on. His arrangements could be heard behind such diverse acts as Wes Montgomery, Curtis Mayfield and the Bee Gees. He also served as head of A&R for the Chicago branch of ABC-Paramount in the 1960s.
