Phillips, Herbie
Herbie Phillips studied at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln before striking out as a trumpet player with local territory bands. Moving to Las Vegas in the early 1960s, Phillips began working as a trumpeter and arranger for several shows at some of the most high-profile hotels in the city. Although his dedication to his "day gig" took up most of his time, he wrote several big band charts, some of which eventually were recorded by his friend, trumpeter Carl Saunders, on Saunders' album "Be Bop Big Band."
