Hines, Clarence
Trombonist Clarence Hines has performed throughout North America, Central America, and Europe, and has performed with musicians such as Slide Hampton, Bob Brookmeyer, Johnny Mathis, Josh Groban, the Temptations, the OJays, John Pizzarelli, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, the Harry James Orchestra, David Sanborn, and most recently with Maceo Parker. Clarence has also performed on numerous occasions at the North Sea Jazz Festival (Netherlands), East Coast Jazz Festival, Rochester International Jazz Festival, and the Jacksonville Jazz Festival. He can be heard on various recordings on labels such as Origin and Sea Breeze.
As a composer and arranger, Clarence has written works for various ensembles ranging from large and small jazz ensembles to studio orchestras. The Quest, his most recent commission, was premiered at The Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts by the University of North Florida Wind Symphony. Other compositions and arrangements have been premiered at The Midwest Clinic, International Association for Jazz Education Conference, the Festival Les Rendez-â€vous de l’Erdre (Nantes, France), Jacksonville Jazz Festival, Rochester International Jazz Festival, and the International Tuba-Euphonium Conference. His compositions and arrangements are available through UNC Jazz Press, Really Good Music, and ejazzLines.
Clarence has Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees in Jazz Studies and Contemporary Media from the Eastman School of Music as well as a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies from the University of North Florida. Clarence served as a trombonist/paratrooper in the famed 82d Airborne Division Band (NC) and the 79th Army Band (Panama) of the U.S. Army. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor of Jazz Studies at the University of North Florida and an artist/clinician for Conn-Selmer.
