Dotas, Chuck
Chuck Dotas is a Professor of Music and Coordinator of Jazz Studies at James Madison University, where he directs the JMU Jazz Ensemble and is also Coordinator for the JMU Office of International Programs' Summer Study Abroad jazz residency "The Arts and Culture of Montreal." Professor Dotas holds a B.M. from the University of Wisconsin at Green Bay; M.M., Eastman School of Music; and D.A., University of Northern Colorado. Previously, Dr. Dotas was on the Jazz Studies faculty at McGill University, and also taught in the Wisconsin public schools for six years. He is active as a clinician and composer-in-residence at universities and jazz festivals throughout the United States, and is well known as a composer and arranger. He has been commissioned to compose for the Staunton Music Festival yearly since 2005, and his music for jazz ensemble has been performed in Germany, Taiwan, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada and throughout the United States. His music is published through UNC Jazz Press, Walrus Music, and Margun Music.
