Farmer, Art
Trumpeter and flugelhorn player Art Farmer began his career in the 1940s, playing and recording with Benny Carter, Lionel Hampton, Clifford Brown, Teddy Charles, Charles Mingus, Horace Silver, Oliver Nelson, Gerry Mulligan, Jim Hall, Thelonius Monk and George Russell. In the late 1950s, he formed the Jazztet with Benny Golson. Farmer worked in Europe throughout the 1960s. He led a number of small groups and toured extensively in the decades that followed. Known for his distinctive phrasing and warm sound, Farmer's style continued to evolve until the end of his life. Whitney Balliett described Farmer as “one of the few genuinely individual modern trumpeters.”
