Edition: Jazz Small Group Arrangement with Vocal
Description: Swing - Medium
Publisher: Jazz Lines Publications
Taken from her classic Cole Porter Song Book album, Ella Fitzgerald's cover of All of You (enhanced by an arrangement by Buddy Bregman) distills the tune down to its simplest, most melodically inviting form. It's also a good chance to give your sax and trumpet sections a break during live performances, as the accompanying ensemble consists of only four trombones and rhythm section (see the contents tab).
After a short introduction from the cup muted trombones in unison, Fitzgerald takes center stage with the melody at measure 5, with some easy-going accompaniment from the rest of the band. The trombones proceed to take the lead at measure 37, as a section for eight bars and in solo form for eight bars. The arrangement then is copied and from before, this time with the trombones open, ending with a slightly altered version of the introductory riff.
Please note - the original recording saw a couple of cuts to this arrangement, likely for time purposes:
1) The first cut occurs at the very beginning of the chart. On the recording, the first three measures are not played at all; Fitzgerald begins the performance with the melody pickups into measure 5 instead.
2) The second cut is much more substantial. The entire trombone soli and the first half of the second melody are removed; at the end of measure 35, the band jumps ahead to measure 68, where Fitzgerald sings the pickup notes into measure 68 by herself. The arrangement continues as written to the end.
This publication was prepared from Buddy Bregman's original pencil score - this is not a transcription.
