Composer/educator Michele Fernández has a wonderful reputation for her latin compositions, but A Little Orpheus Swing serves notice that her swing charts are happening as well. This one features an abundance of great ensemble work with solos spots for several members of the band. A perfect choice for grade 2.

From the composer/arranger:

"1. This original swing chart is based on the chord changes to the iconic Bossa Nova jazz standard, 'Black Orpheus.'

2. Lines in the horns should be played smoothly, with crisp articulations. Accents should all be played long throughout.

3. Drum set should closely observe the stylistic variations within the chart as noted (especially at the 'shout chorus' styled sections). It is strongly recommended to work the rhythm separately and strive for rhythmic precision and cohesiveness.

4. Horns should lock in with tight precision on rhythmic figures and articulate very crisply, always listening carefully to the rhythm section.

5. Solo sections: Guitar/Piano should play close attention to articulations as would the horns, and also avoid busy, simultaneous comping by alternating roles (padding vs. rhythmic) or by taking turns laying out."
